Guide to Being the Best Weekend Warrior

Colorado Weekend Warrior

In the Rocky Mountains, a “Weekend Warrior” is typically a Front Range local, such as Denver, who likes to escape the stresses of everyday life by spending the weekends up in the mountains. They arrive happy and ready to go skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, biking, rafting and many other outdoor adventures. If you are a weekend warrior, you might as well the best weekend warrior you can be! Make sure you are all set for lodging, food, transportation and parking. Most warriors already have a game plan for what they will do when they arrive, but for those that don’t here are a few tips.

Lodging

There are multiple ways to book lodging for just a weekend stay. One you become a well-versed weekend warrior, this part will be easy. Do some internet digging for Bed and Breakfasts for a unique and relaxing stay, or heighten your adventure at a local campground. You can also find great listings on sites like Airbnb, VRBO, Roomarama, Booking.com, and Onefinestay. These sites will market especially to people only staying for the weekend at great rates. If you are planning on spending time in the Granite/Buena Vista area, check out our cabins and campground!

Food

We may not have as many options as Denver up in the high country, but we have some incredible eats all around! The best way to find the best food is to ask the locals. Mountain town residents have all the insider info – best happy hour deals, best hidden gems, where the crowds go and where to avoid. Head over to review sites like TripAdvisor and Yelp to get a good idea of what you’re looking for, then run your ideas by a local shop owner for some of the best insight you can find.

Transportation

Sure, I-70 makes it pretty simple to get up to the Rocky Mountains, however, many towns are now charging for parking. To be the best weekend warrior you can be, carpool! Chances are you won’t need a car once you get to where you’re going. Most towns in the Rockies have a well-executed public transportation system. Looking to skip the car altogether? Check out mountain shuttle carriers, like Peak 1 Express, to take the stress out of your weekend.

This is just the tip of the iceburg for becoming an elite Weekend Warrior.
