How To Pick The Best Colorado Rafting Company

Colorado Rafting Companies – How do you know which is right for you?

Choosing a Colorado rafting company can be a daunting task. There’re so many things to consider especially when you’re trying to coordinate a trip for multiple participants. In our 15 years of taking people down a variety of river trips, we’ve been able to narrow down a list of questions you should ask when looking at all Colorado rafting companies. At AVA Colorado Rafting, we want your rafting trip to be enjoyable, safe and stress free. So sit back, relax and get ready to have all your Colorado rafting company questions answered.

Does the rafting company stress safety and ask about your experience level?

Hands down, the most important aspect to consider when choosing a rafting company is their level of safety. Location, duration, other activities; none of it matters if it’s not safe. Colorado rafting knows that in order to have fun, we must be concerned with the safety of our paddlers at all times. Though Colorado does not require helmets on Class III sections, we know a rock is a rock no matter how intense the whitewater is. That’s why at AVA, we provide and require helmets on our Class III, Class IV and Class V whitewater rafting trips.

That being said, the next step to safety is communication. Taking the time to ask you about your age, fitness, group members, adventure level and previous experience ensures we’re all on the same page. Remember, rafting is a team effort!

Finally, it’s important that your rafting company has experienced guides. At AVA Colorado Rafting, our guides are trained professionals with an average of 8 years’ guiding experience. Rest assured, we’re fun, friendly and knowledgeable about the history, wildlife, and geology of each trip.

What type of equipment is provided?

We’ve already touched on helmets; now you should be asking the rafting company what other equipment they provide and what you’ll have to supply yourself. At AVA Colorado Rafting, we provide paddles, life jackets, helmets, plus wetsuits and splash jackets are FREE of charge on all AVA-run trips. We don't believe you should have to pay extra to be warm and comfortable (which is also a matter of safety). All you’ll need to bring is breathable synthetic clothing and shoes that won’t fall off. You'll likely want sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat, too.

How many people are in your group?

When choosing a rafting company, it’s important to consider how many people you’re bringing with you. Most companies will have the equipment to accommodate large groups, but some are more accustomed to rafting with a lot of people. Colorado rafting is more than happy to accommodate large groups and can even offer discounted rates to parties of 10 or more!

Does everyone want to go rafting? Do you want to try other activities?

Often times we hear about rafters who come to Colorado only to discover the people they’re with don’t enjoy it. Don’t worry if you’re travelling with non-rafters; Colorado Rafting has loads of other fun activities fit for people of all ages. Unlike some other Colorado rafting companies, Colorado Rafting offers a zip line tour or rock climbing at our 44-acre Granite Outpost. We can also arrange horseback riding, fishing trips, ATV tours, hot air ballooning, hiking and more.

Is your rafting company dedicated to service?

If you’re dealing with a rafting company that doesn’t make you feel 100 percent prepared for the trip you’re about to take, you’re with the wrong company. Your rafting company should give you exactly what you want with nothing hidden. That’s why AVA treats you with the dedication and service that comes with years of experience. We won’t get on the water until you’re completely satisfied and comfortable.
