Whitewater Rafting: Tipping Your River Guide

Posted in Whitewater Rafting Blog

Are Tips for the Rafting Guides Acceptable?

That’s a really great question and one we get a lot. We don’t actually have a tipping policy for our guides but let’s just say this. Our rafting guides are the best in the business. They are highly trained professional who are passionate about what they do. This is not just a job for them; it’s a way of life. Our guides do much more than guide your raft down the river; they are storytellers, history buffs, amateur geologists, animal and plant identifiers, comedians and protectors.

If you feel your guide has done a great job and made your experience a memorable one, then you can certainly show your appreciation by giving a tip. The amount is totally up to you. Many people believe that anyone in a service type of job (like restaurant and hotel employees, hair dressers and dog groomers, etc.) should get between 10-20% of the total cost of the service. That is not to say that’s what we suggest, but that’s what most people tip when they do tip. So, for instance, if your trip was $200.00, and your guide made your experience a memorable one, a $20-$40 tip would be generous and greatly appreciated!

If your guide was so exceptional that you want him or her to be your guide on all future trips, simply request him at the time you make your reservation. While we cannot promise he/she will be available that day, we will do everything in our power to accommodate your request.

The earlier you contact AVA to schedule your rafting trip, the better your chances of getting the guide want.

White Water River Trip Cancellations

Posted in Whitewater Rafting Blog

What is Your Whitewater Rafting Trip Cancellation Policy?

We understand that situations arise, and cancelling a scheduled rafting trip is sometimes unavoidable. Arkansas Valley Adventures actually has one of the most lenient cancellation policies of the rafting companies in the area, but if we had no cancellation policy at all, we wouldn’t be able to keep the business going!

The AVA cancellation policy is as follows:

For groups of less than ten: If you cancel at least 14 days before the date of the trip, you will receive a full refund minus a 10% service charge. For cancellations made within 14 days and outside 2 days before the scheduled trip, 50% of your money will be refunded. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the trip will not be refunded.

For groups of ten or more: Cancellations made 14 days before the trip are fully refunded minus a 10% service charge. Cancellations made within 14 days and outside of 7 days before the trip will be refunded 50%. Cancellations within 7 days of the trip are not refunded for parties of ten or more.

You can purchase cancellation insurance, which allows you to cancel up until 12 hours before the trip departure time and receive a 90% refund.

If you have any questions about our cancellation policy, please give us a call and we’d be happy to discuss it with you. Hopefully, you will be able to make your scheduled trip and have the best rafting experience you have ever had, and for you first timers, we are sure you will want to come back over and over!
