Known for its incredible ski slopes, Copper Mountain is a favorite winter spot for many Colorado residents and tourists.  However, few know that Copper Mountain offers many more activities than just skiing or snowboarding. It can take a few days and a chunk of change to get the hang of the popular sport of skiing, so how do you fill in your days off the slopes on your weekly vacation? 

 

Copper Mountain Tubing Hill

First things first, you should check out the tubing hill.  Copper Mountain’s sledding spot throws some curves and bumps your way, keeping each run different and will have you and your family smiling all day.

West Lake Ice Skating

Wanting to spend some time on the ice?  Head over to West Lake and skate for an afternoon. Open from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily, you can decide if you want to skate for a few hours before the sun sets, or glide under the stars and twinkling string lights at night.  With skates available to rent for the entire day, everyone can have enjoy mixing it up playing broom ball, hockey, and curling all for free.

Critterland

Do you have some younger children in your group?  Critterland is a great spot for the kids, with a Ducktopus Tubing Carousel they can play on, a Bearill Snow Den they can crawl through, and a mini tubing run named Squeal Hill.  It’s located at the bottom of the tubing hill in Copper Mountain’s East Village, so they old kids can sled the big slopes while you hang with the tikes in Critterland.

Rocky Mountain Coaster

New this year to Copper Mountain is the Rocky Mountain Coaster. At 5,800 feet long, this is one of the longest coasters in North America. You will enjoy a ride through the trees as you descend 430 vertical feet with an average grade of 10.9%! Choose to sit in the passenger seat in the back or hop up front and drive. The coaster is open in both winter and summer, making it the perfect activity when ever you are in the area.

REI Adventure Station

Also new to Copper this year is the REI Adventure Station.  Guides are available here to take you on fat bike and snowshoe tours.  The Adventure Station also will offer outdoor education classes, including “Wilderness Survival: Winter Skill”.

The Barn

Copper Mountain also has The Barn, which is an indoor training facility for skiing or snowboarding. In The Barn you will find a skate park, foam pits, and Olympic grade trampolines. This is the perfect destination for anyone who wants to practice some new tricks in a more forgiving environment, and is part of the popular training program called Woodward Copper.

 

For those looking for a less physically demanding day, you could check out Copper’s shopping or the Copper Mountain Spa. At the spa you can relax with everything from Swedish massage to Aroma therapy. And for shopping Copper offers many stores for apparel, gifts, and crafts!
