Looking for a fun way to spend your Memorial Day this year?  Head to the Colorado Rockies!  As the official kick-off weekend to the summer season, thousands of people flock to the mountains in search of fun activities and adventure.  Here are our tips of where to spend your Memorial Day in Colorado.

Avoid the Traffic

We all know how busy Colorado gets during holiday weekends in the summer.  You may find yourself scooting along I-70 at 5 miles per hour trying to reach your destination.  Summit County is a favored spot to spend Memorial Day, but if you don’t want to spend half your weekend crawling along the hot interstate, head to Buena Vista.  This beautiful hidden gem is just under two hours west of Colorado Springs on Highway 24 and has plenty of fun for the whole family.  You may hit a few slow spots along the way, but the drive is breathtaking and you’ll make it to this amazing mountain town in no time.  Between whitewater rafting, ziplining, horseback riding, fly fishing, rock climbing, and even AVA’s newest adventure: the Granite Via Ferrata, you won’t fall short of activities to choose from.  The Buena Vista location is also equipped with rustic miner cabins and a campground right at the outpost, so you could even consider spending your whole weekend venturing along the base of the Collegiate Peaks.

Enjoy an Afternoon Getaway Close to Denver

If you’re sticking around the Denver area for Memorial Day, not to worry!  The historic mountain town of Idaho Springs is just 30-45 minutes west of the mile high city so you don’t have to travel far for an adventure.  Zipline along the cliffside, try your hand at mountaineering on AVA’s Mount Evans Via Ferrata, or raft the rapids of Clear Creek during the holiday weekend, then head back to Denver after a few hours in the mountains.

Make Your Weekend One to Remember

You’ll have to battle some traffic as you get up to Kremmling, but once you’re there you can set every worry aside and enjoy your weekend to the fullest on one of AVA’s overnight rafting trips24 Hours on the Upper C will have you and your family paddling through the mild rapids on the Upper Colorado River with AVA’s experienced guides.  Once you pull over for the night, your guides will cook a delicious dinner for you and set up camp as you sit back, relax, and make memories.  Though the trek up there may be a hassle, but once you arrive you can relieve all your stress and enjoy some family time along the Colorado River for your Memorial Day.
