The Best Time to Raft in Colorado

When is the best time for you to come raft in Colorado?

Colorado offers an abundance of sensational adventures during all different times of the year. Rafting season starts in late spring and goes until the fall; while ziplining can last much longer. If you have never had a chance to visit the marvelous state of Colorado, you are missing out of the sunny weather, beautiful scenery and wonderful people here.

May through October is typical raft season depending on where you go in Colorado. AVA provides trips on a number on different rivers throughout the state. Some of our more popular rivers include the Arkansas River, Clear Creek and the Upper Colorado river. The best time to be on the water in these rivers is May through September.

Even though these rivers run throughout the same summer months, they vary so much in experience that it makes it hard to choose when and where you want to go. If you are looking for a float trip or the most intense trip AVA offers check out Colorado River. Gore Canyon is class 5 but the water below the canyon is mellow and smooth.

If you are looking for an overnight trip with a variety of rapids, then check out the Arkansas River. The Ark (as the locals like to call it) is an awesome river to spend some time if you get a chance to get to Granite, CO. There is also ziplining and rock climbing at this location!

Last but not least, if you are looking for fun close to the city of Denver check out  Clear Creek. It is about 30 minutes from Denver, so even if you don’t have the time you can make the time to go raft this summer! There are a number of choices on each of these rivers but the next step would be finding your ideal trip.

In Colorado our all the snow we get in winter contributes to a great rafting season. Summer high water is what we our looking for with all the snow that melts. Early June makes for some crazy rapids, if that is what you are looking for. We find that mid June is about the best dates to join us for a trip because the water is steady and a little warmer! Late season river releases can also make for an awesome rafting time in the Fall.
