Fly fishing guides love their work and the river, seeking to inspire this same passion in guests. Our experienced guides receive training that exceeds industry standards, including in emergency response and safety equipment. All gear, from PFDs (personal flotation device) to rods and reels, is regularly inspected and tested for your safety. Before your fly fishing adventure, our guides will provide a comprehensive overview of the experience and answer any questions you may have to make sure you feel comfortable out on the water.
25 Years of AVA Adventure
For two and a half decades, AVA Rafting & Zipline has provided exceptional outdoor adventure experiences in Colorado. While our roots lie in whitewater rafting dating back to 1998, we have since expanded to offer a range of exciting activities, including our fly fishing trips on the Upper Colorado and Arkansas Rivers. Anglers of every experience level will want to take advantage of our guided fly fishing trips. First-timers will benefit from in-depth instruction in casting and technique, and even learn how to choose the right fly. Veteran anglers will enjoy navigating the ins and outs of the best spots on Colorado’s rivers, as well as our included fishing gear. We offer multiple fishing trips, and anglers can choose from float versus wade and half-day, full-day, or multi-day adventures! We take care of all the details from guide to gear, allowing you to relax and focus on casting your best lines.
Your Fly Fishing Trip with AVA
We offer fly fishing trips at two locations: on the Upper Colorado out of our Kremmling outpost just one hour from Summit County and on the Arkansas River from our Buena Vista outpost, one hour from Breckenridge, Vail, and Aspen. On all trips, you can relax, knowing that we’ll take care of providing the necessary gear, including fly fishing rods and flies! On our Kremmling-based 4 Hour Float Trip, you will experience the picturesque Upper Colorado from your boat, floating from fishing hole to fishing hole. Our Colorado River fishing trips are perfect for both novices and experienced anglers and allow you to relax while your guide navigates the river. Our 2 Hour Walk and Wade Trip also allows you to fish the best of the Upper Colorado River from our Kremmling outpost. Instead of traversing the river by boat, you will spend the morning or afternoon wading through the waters and testing your luck at spots along the way. Your guide will have already determined the best fishing locations based on water clarity, conditions, and their extensive experience, choosing stopping points where you will have the most success. From our Buena Vista location and the Arkansas River, we offer Never-Ever half-day or full-day fly fishing trips with stunning views of the Collegiate Peaks mountain range. These experiences are wading trips perfect for beginners looking to learn casting techniques, knots, and the ins and outs of fly fishing. Our Never-Ever trips include all necessary gear, including a one day fishing license, and allow you to try out the sport at your own pace. We additionally offer 2-day overnight and 3-day overnight trips on the Upper Colorado River from our Kremmling outpost. These trips allow you to combine fishing and camping and experience the best of Colorado’s outdoors day and night! You will cover more ground on the river, test your luck across multiple sections, and try out both float and wade fishing.
Our Adventure Tips
On all trips other than our Never-Ever trips, the most important item to make sure you bring is a Colorado Fishing License, required for all guests 16 and older. As Colorado weather can vary during the day, we advise packing layers and a raincoat. The sun can be strong out on the water, and a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen will help protect your skin and keep you comfortable. We also suggest bringing a water bottle and a backpack to carry any belongings. Overnight trips will include all necessary camping equipment and food, other than a sleeping bag and personal items. Please see our trip pages for a complete packing list. To ensure you get the most out of your fly fishing experience, please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled trip. Our fly-fishing trips are great for the entire family, and no fishing experience is necessary. The minimum age for all trips is 10 years old. All guests 16 or older must have a valid Colorado fishing license, which can be bought online with Colorado Parks & Wildlife or purchased at many outdoor outfitters/stores. Other than that, you are ready to hit the water!

Absolutely fantastic day on the river learning how to fly fish with Kyle. Not only did he patiently teach us how to fly fish but he also pointed out historical points of interest, and the stunning local geography and wildlife, including a bald eagle and big horn sheep! We feel totally confident with this new hobby and can’t wait to do it all again! Thank you, Kyle, for a wonderful day!

The day could not have been better--and not just because of the fish caught! AVA is a first-class operation and our guide, Brian Baca, was truly one of the best fishing guides I've ever had the pleasure to fish with and learn from. We fished the stretch of river from Rancho del Rio to State Bridge by raft and were often the only ones around. The landscape is quintessential Colorado, which is to say views just plain make you feel lucky to be there.
