On Your Train Ride Adventure

RIDE A PLACE OF COLORADO HISTORY

In the wake of Colorado’s Gold Rush, trains developed both as an integral component of the industrial revolution, as well as a means for tourists to experience the rugged beauty of the west. The Georgetown Loop Railroad, completed in 1884, represents one of Colorado’s earliest tourist ventures, allowing visitors stunning views of the area’s peaks and mountains. The Georgetown Loop Express was originally built in 1884 to connect the two mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume through a deep, mountain canyon. It has since been re-engineered and reconstructed, but you’ll get the same historic feel of over 100 years ago.

LOOPS AND MORE

After its original use was discontinued, this narrow-gauge Colorado train ride became one of Colorado’s first tourist attractions. Although only 2 miles separate Georgetown and Silver Plume, the “corkscrew” route used to construct this railroad is more than 4 miles long! While you ride, you will be able to buy food and drinks on the train while you enjoy the experience.

CLOSE & QUICK

Located only 45 minutes from Denver, Summit County or Winter Park, you can complete your train ride adventure in about a half day or less. And with multiple departure times, you’ll find just the right fit for your schedule. The train ride itself is about 1 hour, 15 minutes long. Add a mine tour to extend the trip to 2 ½ hours.

ADD A MINING TOUR

The Lebanon Mining Tour is a guided walking tour through real 1880s silver mines. Accessible only by train, you’ll see the Lebanon Mill, the miners’ change room and tool room, the Mine Manager’s office, and more. History comes alive on this authentic Colorado train ride and mine experience. It’s easy to combine an AVA rafting trip on Clear Creek or a zipline tour with your Georgetown Loop Train Ride – both activities are located just a few minutes away in Idaho Springs.
