South of Breckenridge there are two unique towns that are sure to bring in visitors during the summer. If you are looking to refuel after a hard day of rafting and aerial adventures, we have the scoop on some of our favorite spots in Buena Vista and Leadville.
The Eddyline Brewing company has a little something for everyone from the sportsman, to vegetarians, and the avid craft beer sommelier. This restaurant located off of US-24 offers a unique take on the traditional B.L.T by adding savory salmon providing heartiness to a comforting sandwich. For those friends that enjoy the hearty flavors of the Mediterranean, mixed through a bed of quinoa in which you can add protein for an additional charge.
Pancho’s Southwestern exterior has that rustic feel to make feel quite at home. This restaurant has some of the best tacos surrounding the Buena Vista area. Don’t let the seemingly simple menu deter you from having delicious food from tacos to my favorite hamburger smothered in their pork green chili. This adds a uniquely rich and subtle flavor to the Southwestern United States. Pancho’s is highly recommended amongst our guides as the food is reasonably priced and loaded with complex carbohydrates to carry them through the day.
Colorado is well known for its pizza, try High Mountain Pies located in Historic Leadville. This lovely pizza place knows how to pack flavor into its pies, which are perfect to fill you after a day of adventuring. Try the ‘San Luis’ this pie takes a southwestern spin on pie by putting succulent braised pork with ranchero sauce and bits of green chili in replacement of bell peppers. They also provide pie that people had been raving about for nearly 400 years, the simply complex Margherita Pizza.
The Tennessee Pass Cafe located in Leadville has one of the best vegetarian appetizers, the Melenzana Rolls are eggplant rolled with goat cheese, roasted red peppers, spinach, and delightful basil pesto. Tennessee Pass Cafe provides locals with a great time with their Hot Bacon Salad. This spinach salad is topped with Roma tomato, and red onions, and finished off with parmesan cheese, and their one-of-a-kind Hot Bacon Dressing.
The Buena Viking is a food truck that serves the Buena Vista area with some of their original classics such as ‘the Boone’ a slight variation of a Jalapeno popper. This is a burger that has cream cheese to mellow out the potential heat of the pickled jalapenos. They also have fried cornmeal chicken tenders that would surely fuel anyone with a hankering for chicken. The Buena Viking also has impossible options that have no soy, GMOs, or gluten making it taste like one of their signature burgers without the meat.
